This summer we also decided to learn about different bugs. Each week we've picked a bug to learn about. This week it was spiders. We started off by playing Insect Bingo and we also watch A Bug's Life.

For one of our Art Projects we made Paper plate spiders. Tanner had a lot of fun using the fingers paints. I had given him colored paper for the legs but he painted them white. He said he likes white. I also printed off some googly eye stickers for his spider.
Violet didn't get to make one since she fell asleep.

I also made a Spider book for each one of the kids to color in.
We made Spider pizza for dinner on Wednesday night. It looked great before I cooked it but once the cheese was melted you couldn't tell it was a spider web. I made the spider out of an olive.

We also read some books on spiders, watched an episode from Wild Kratts about Orb Weaver spiders, and we watched an episode from Magic School Bus about the Trap Door spider and how spiders catch things. I also pulled up a You tube video on 25 different spiders that look scary but are harmless. We learned about baby spiders and ballooning.
One morning for breakfast I made the kids some smoothies. We'd already talked about how spiders don't have mouths. They bite their prey and then when an enzyme breaks down the bug insides so they can slurp it up. It turns it into liquid. So I made some bug juice for breakfast.
Our last art project Tanner and I did ended up being Glitter Spiders. Once again Violet didn't get to make this because she had fallen asleep. I think his spider turned out great. He decided to do a 9 legged Trap door spider. (He does know spiders only have 8 legs.) He drew the dirt and a rock and a Racheal bug for it to eat. He's a funny kid. The spider has 3 eyes and those red things are fangs even though it looks like a mouth. He did a great job. I did help him with the body a bit though. We love doing art projects.
I think Tanner and Violet have had a lot of fun this week learning Spiders.
