We finished another week of bugs- Dragonflies. We learned that Dragonflies are born under the water and are called Nymph's . During their early days of life they eat lots of baby Mosquito's that are swimming in the water around them. As they eat, they grow and shed- skin after skin. Every time they shed they are bigger. Eventually they are big enough that they crawl up on a branch that is sticking out of the water and shed their skin for the last time and become Adult Dragonflies. They'll hang there for a little while until their wings dry. They have 2 sets of wings. And are the fastest flying bug. When they land they leave their wings spread out wide where as Damselflies fold there wings against their body when they land.
They don't live very long but they eat lots of bugs, fly around really fast, find a mate, lay eggs and then die. The cycle of a Dragonfly- it's very short. Tanner thought it was pretty neat that we found one at his Grandma Jan's house on the sidewalk.
This week we read lots of books to learn about them and we made some dragonfly cookies. Like I said in the other post Tanner likes to help baking.

We also made some dragonflies out of sticks, craft foam and pom poms. The kids love cutting out and gluing.
Another week of bugs. Next week is our last week. I'll be glad for a break. It's been hard thinking of things to do to help the kids learn more about each bug. Books, TV shows, Youtube clips, crafts and foods. So much fun!
