Ant Week

This week we learned about Ants. We had so many other things going on that I wasn't able to do everything I wanted to but every morning while we ate breakfast we got to read about the different type of Ants. We learned about: Farmer Ants- they grow there own fungus food in the grownd, Harvester Ants- that collect food and save it for later, Red Ants that can't provide for themselves so they enslave the Black Ants to do all the work for them, Baby Ants that build cocoons around themselves until they develop into adult Ants. We learned about the Ant Lion - which is a really gross looking ant that digs a funnel in the ground to catch it's prey. Every time Dan said Ant Lion Violet growled. It was cute. We learned about the queen and how she rubs her wings off and starts a new nest. There are so many different types of Ants.
We were able to make a few art projects though. The first one we did was just stamping with all my bug stamps.
Tanner and Violet loved it.  The Ant stamp is so small that it was funner to just make a whole bug page.

Tanner a bit carried away with the ink. He's a funny kid.
Our next project we made was egg carton Ants. This was Violets first time using finger paints. She kept eating them so I had to have her stop.

Tanner loves painting though and would do it all day if he could
Tanner and Violet's Ants. Tanner painted on his eye stickers.
I also made them an Ant book we could work on together. We watched an episode from the Magic school bus on Ants and we learned that Ants use there Antenna to smell with.
It was a good week learning about Ants.
